Taking iPhone photos of your interior design work

Below is an example of a photo shot with an iPhone for an interior design project. To get the best results for your website, here is what to do:

  1. Make sure to get as much natural light from the outdoors as possible. Natural line is more even than artifical light. A cloudy day will get you even better results.

  2. As much as possible, turn off big lights with a lot of glare. In the photo on the left (before) the big chandelier causes a lot of glare in the TV and reflects off shiny objects. Smaller ambient lights are okay as long as they are very, very difused.

  3. Shoot as straight as possible Shoot directly towards a wall at waist hight. Shooting while standing up will cause the photo to look as if you are looking down. Shoot straight into a wall with no horizontal or vertical angels.

  4. Remove as many distracting objects as possible, including cords, tags, trash. Close doors that open to bad rooms. Remove anything that is a distraction.

  5. Take a photo and look at it as a test. It’s easier to detect issues through the Camera than it is with your naked eye. This is because your eye is more critical of a photo than viewing a space in person.
