Aaron and Laura Aguilar’s design expertise have made their company the go-to for full-service luxury interior design and construction solutions in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the surrounding areas. With over twenty years of combined field experience, they started Aguilar Design Studio in Cornelius, NC, to create timeless and traditional interiors for residents. Aaron is a licensed general contractor in North Carolina with well-rounded knowledge of the residential architecture industry from having worked on tract homes and custom home projects before beginning Aguilar Design Studio. Laura is the creative interior designer of the duo. She began her interior design career by designing spaces for her close friends and family when she lived in California. Her talent for the art of design was so clear that she launched her own full-time design business before co-founding Aguilar Design Studio.

When Laura and Aaron work with clients, they strive to give them the best design experience and relieve as much stress from their shoulders as possible. “We understand that construction can be a headache,” Aguilar Design Studio told us. “With our licensed GC, Aaron, we are able to work directly with our fully-vetted trades people who are experts in their craft. We do all of our design work up front to make sure that once the construction process is started, there are minimal changes and surprises.” Not only this, but when Laura designs the interior, she suggests timeless, natural materials and finishes to ensure the client’s space is one that can be enjoyed for years to come.

Laura and Aaron accomplished both of these goals when they renovated a bedroom and bathroom for a couple who wanted a space that felt like a relaxing retreat. To elevate the bedroom, the space was given new wall molding details and painted a dark, moody color. With this as the foundation of the room, Laura layered the design with soft textures and natural wood elements.

The outdated bathroom needed even more attention. With a poor floor plan, little storage, a very small shower, and a large, unused built-in garden tub, the space required a lot of construction. The unwanted garden tub was removed to make room for a spacious walk-in shower. The large window by the old tub which faced the neighbor’s home was exchanged for an obscured glass window to keep the natural sunlight while solving the obvious privacy issue. Where the old shower once was, a custom built-in storage system with pullout hamper drawers was installed. The clients loved their new floor plan and efficient yet sophisticated storage.

When asked about the finished result of this project, Aguilar Design Studio said, “The clients are still swooning over the classic colors and finishes that were chosen and feel this space is exactly what they asked for. We love the use of natural materials and timeless colors throughout the space, as well as the moody, masculine feel that this space has.” Aguilar Design Studio really did produce something beautiful, unique, and personal for this couple; it is a stunning tribute to their detailed design work.
