With great interior design arises the need for great interiors photography. In Dallas, Texas, Aaron Dougherty—a highly talented visual artist—meets this very need in the luxury design industry. Through his unique, collaborative photoshoot process, Aaron has honed the art of telling a story through a portfolio of images. He does this by creating a collection with natural, visual flow, as if one were walking through a showhouse. When it is finished, Aaron has guided the viewer through the interior designer’s vision of the space. Design is always the hero of his narratives, the theme an artful portrayal of the designer’s signature style, and the entire chronicle is told by elegant lighting and keen composition.
Aaron Dougherty has always loved to create. Early in life, this passion led him to take a job in the building trades, but the field didn’t allow for as much creativity as he craved. He enrolled in a photography course and soon became consumed with the possibilities of creative expression available in the medium. For the next ten years he worked with furnishings brands including Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams, Farrow & Ball, The Container Store, and Phillip Jeffries. Little by little he began working with more interior designers—both emerging and established—assisting them in capturing their impeccable projects for their editorials, awards shows, and portfolios. This facet of his business continued to expand and in just a few years his photography began appearing in national shelter magazines such as House Beautiful, Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, and the New York Times.
Aaron Dougherty Photography is based in Dallas, Texas, but the company’s services are not exclusive to the state. “I love interiors photography projects that require travel outside of Texas,” Aaron shared with us. “It gives me more perspective into the larger world of design, the regional dialect, and the broad creativity & clever solutions that talented designers bring to their clients’ way of living.” The photoshoot featured in this article is one such as that. Aaron collaborated with R. Cartwright Design, an exceptional full-service interior design studio with offices in both Iowa and Georgia, to capture their beautiful Green Dolphin design project. Aaron’s creative process has reaped rewards not only for his company, but for his clients’ companies. From initial meeting to long after the photoshoot has finished, Aaron invests himself in his client’s professional growth. He not only is a phenomenal visual artist, but a passionate champion of talented interior designers across the United States.
